ABOUT NDOG
We are outgoing residents of Natomas & North Sac who enjoy exercising and socializing our dogs. On our Yahoo! listserv, members share tips and advocate for dog-friendly amenities. This past year, NDOG members organized outings to Elverta, Apple Hill, Auburn (below), and Wheatland.
A RESPONSIBLE OWNER KNOWS:
1. A dog is an animal companion.
It is not a human, nor a child.
(Even if it's little and cute.)
2. Picking up dog poop is good karma.
3. Train your dog to follow your lead.
Until it does, avoid the dog park.
4. Obey leash laws to avoid harm.
5. Don't allow nose-to-nose greets
with unknown leashed dogs.
Because the dogs can't flee, they
may decide to fight.
6. Be courteous to all.
DOG PARKS IN NATOMAS
Families with dogs have a tough time finding places to romp, but the offerings are improving over time:
Bannon Creek (2001)
When it opened in 2001, the 2/3 acre Bannon Creek Dog Park became the first one in the North Area. The Mayor presided at the ribbon cutting and a press release was issued.

Tanzanite (2007)
In 2007, the City planned and opened Tanzanite Dog Park, consisting of a small turf area plus the fenced backside of the drainage pond behind Wal-Mart. The dog park provides a much-needed option to exercise with your dog off leash. However, location, poor drainage and weeds reduce usage.
Regency Park (2008)
After 3 years of efforts by the City and NDOG, the Regency Community Small and Large Dog Park opened in early 2008. The separate areas for small and large dogs reduces the risk of injury. The mix of decomposed granite, grass and mulch offers variety.

5 ac. REGIONAL DOG PARK???
There is a 72-acre regional park slated for the large parcel at North Park Drive & Truxel. Out of two dozen amenities, the regional dog park was the #1 vote getter, but the City says it does not have funds to build yet.
W. NATOMAS: The dog parks that were proposed to be built by Beazer as part of Riverdale South are on hold. Blackbird Park (Natomas Central) plans to contain a large & small dog park, built by K. Hovnanian Homes.
N. NATOMAS: In 2007, NDOG members attended public workshops to plan small and large dog off-leash amenities in Valley Oak Park. The site (below)is accessible via a canal/bike path near Mabry & East Commerce. Construction in 2009.
2007 BBQ/FUNDRAISER:
Proceeds were donated to a local rescue. Special thanks to Fetch! Pet Care of Natomas/West Sacramento.
